Gogglebox #4 - I'm mentioning this zine first because that's where it belongs. This is the queen of all zines. If a zine ever changed my life, I would have to say it was this one. The bulk of it is the description of her summer. This girl is completely nuts, does whatever she feels like doing, and has a great time doing it. I was totally hypnotized as I read all 75 pages. I'm so insanely jealous of her, I don't even think she's around anymore because she's taking a 15 month trip around the world.

Refuge #6 - I just got a copy of this the other day, apparantly it's been out for a while. Nice format, a little newspapery thing. Very cool. Inside you'll find essays from various people on capital punishment, an interview with Burial Ground, a bit of Q & A, and an article on drug legalization. As usual, it's apparant that a lot of effort, time, and thought were put into the creation. Write to Ed at 123 Rice St., Trucksville, PA, 18708

80's Rocker #6 - Here's a zine that's goofy and informative, a good combination. If you just love synth rock you'll feel right at home here. Lots of random quotes from songs scattered throughout, and everything else seems to tie in somehow with the '80s.

80's Rocker #7 - This special edition is dedicated to her campaign for mayor! Can you believe it? It includes articles, interviews, and other related info.

Weight of the World #2 - From the creator of Plastic Vomit Inc. and Bar Code Annie. I hadn't heard from him in over a year, then, amid a pile of college propaganda, I spied the manilla envelope. Ahhhh, I love it when that happens. But, anyway, it's a good zine. He refuses to retype the same vegan facts and straightedge junk. Instead, he opts to share his disgust with working. Not complaining about his job, he actually has something to say. This issue also included more personal articles than his other zines I've read.

Mental Burst #7 - This is a zine from CA, not really centered on any type of scene or music. There's a questionnaire in each issue and you can read my response as #36! Lotsa cutesy stuff, nice format. Mostly personal articles, other random things like tips for being frugal (always welcome) and ideas for Christmas gifts.

What Me Worry #8 - Jimmy tells us of his first lone cross-country trip from California. This quarter-sized zine also includes a bit of reviews, a fudge recipe, and the ABC's of Mid Carson July. The only problem was that it was too short and left me wanting.

State of Mind #1 - A full-sized 60 page zine, simply packed with information. Interviews (not the cheesy questionnaire kind, mind you) with Madball, Indecision, Shutdown, and Karl of Earth Crisis. Show, zine, and record reviews. Other useful information, such as how to start a record label, an "open letter to the scene," and why you should boycott Hootie. Nice scanned pics and a neat format. Pretty damn good for a first issue. (Issue #2 now available) Send $2 USA, $3 everywhere else to Jerry, 1248 81st, Brooklyn, NY, 11228

Smokes Like a Fish #2 - Slick-lookin' zine from a bunch of Geffen Records employees. Definitely an entertaining read, it is quite different from the usual fanzine chit-chat. The editors seem to have a mafia fixation, Smokes Like a Fish includes "Scorcese Speak," a list of mafia nicknames, and the resume of Frank Vincent (the guy they put in the trunk in Good Fellas.) However, my personal favorite section is the interview with the King of Scam, some guy who has managed to sneak into the '96 World Series, Madison Square Garden, and countless other concerts and sporting events. Abbie Hoffman, look out. Send $3 to:  140 Cadman Plaza West #7e, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Breathing Iced-Tea Mix #3 - A collection of hysterically funny yet somehow touching short stories written by a fellow Philadelphia college kid.  The theme is mass transit:  "when you can't simply go exactly where you want, when you want to, for as long as you want to, interesting things begin to happen."  Unpretentious and unassuming, this zine will just make you feel good.   The best I've read in months.  Send $1 to: Sean 8420 Bridle Rd.  Phila, PA   19111
